There’s too much choice in Melbourne. The cafe scene has you scratching your head over green tea poached eggs or caper-cured salmon, gluten-free brioches and reduced bone marrows. At a time when you’re probably hung over and fragile, a slew of options can be a bit much.

Little Big Sugar Salt, lost among the shady dealings and Vietnamese food in Abbotsford’s Little Siagon, looks to take some of the stress out breakfast. The menu is designed around the most basic of food-eating decisions: are you hungry or not, do you prefer savoury or sweet? With only 8 options plotted out across the menu (and a couple of sandwiches on a rotating roster, including Pho Real Fridays and Cray Day Sundays) diners can relax, sip a People’s Coffee (direct from Wellington), enjoy the homely hand-built fit out and watch some junkies get into a knife fight on the street outside.
