No visit to Barcelona is complete without experiencing the sights and smells of the world famous Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona’s vast marketplace. Wander through the stalls and sample various incarnations of the citizens’ favouite – Iberian Jamón. Or better still, try your luck securing a spot at the 14 seat Pinotxo tapas bar. Here they serve a hearty rendition of catalan cuisine in a space that’s buzzing with patrons from 6am until mid afternoon when the market closes. The bar has no written menu, so guests are at the mercy of the incredibly dapper owner Juanito Bayan who suggests a mouth watering selection of daily specials in a simplified format – ‘pescado or carne?’. A place that is as much about the people as the food, it’s a chance to experience the true catalan spirit.
